Opening Log: Town Town Hall Meeting

WELCOME, ONE AND ALL
The modest, high-roofed meeting hall is all done up in fresh cut flowers and gold ribbon. A sign reads:

above the door threshold.

Inside, chairs and tables are set up in front of a speaking podium. Many tables also line the back of the room with an assortment of delicious refreshments. There are placemats and tableware for all to utilize along with spares stacked in the room.

There are finger sandwiches, fresh cut fruit, vegetables, salads, and a variety of roasted meats. It’s nothing fancy but rather a classic farmer’s potluck-style arrangement. It highlights the simple, earnest living of many locals in the town of Town.

You are welcome to come in, grab a plate, and serve yourself whatever refreshments you desire!
CONVERSATION CARDS

Shetland Set by Kammen & Swan

▶︎
Described often as folk music with some pop ambition, Kammen and Swan play songs featuring fiddle, piano, voice and percussion instruments from Celtic countries around the world.
Once you've gotten some food and pocketed some condiments for home, you may notice something else sitting at the table before you.

There are conversation cards for anyone who is at a loss of how to break the ice with their fellow offworlders or locals alike. There are one stack for each each table so plenty of topics to potentially discuss.

While you're more than free to come up with your own, you can also request a card here from the moderators. These ones might be more peculiar than the average conversation card, but that could be what some who might be especially averse to socializing need!

ASK CHARLIE
ALT TEXT
Arrivals are given a few hours to eat, mingle, and get to know each other before Charlie takes up post at the podium and clears his throat.

"Hello everyone! I appreciate you coming. I hope you all have been enjoying the food, please let me know if there are any accommodations you may need or if nothing is to your taste."

Anyway, I... Well! I wanted to take a few minutes to answer some questions. Both from our local residents and those of you who are visiting from other worlds. I know I have spoken to most everyone already, but I’m sure you have extra questions that you’d like answered. I will do my utmost to make sure I give you suitable answers, though much of this situation is still a mystery to myself as well. That said, I hope we can join hands and find our way together to ensure everyone gets back to where they need- or want to be."

He gives a clearly nervous smile, obviously not used to speaking to a crowd.

"So please, one at a time, feel free to raise your hands and I will call on each of you to address your inquiries or concerns." He gives a small bow before preparing himself for what the new residents have to offer.
Notes
⁂ Welcome to the first Town Town Hall Meeting! Get to eat good food, have fun conversation, and ask Charlie any questions you might have directly! So as to not overload Owen, please limit it to one question per character for now!

⁂ A reminder that the quest board is active as of this log! Get to questing as you settle in to Town and help the locals out to increase your reputation.

⁂ We have an OOC Intro / Plotting Post for the game opening available here! Going forward, plotting posts and game events will go hand-in-hand but for now we wanted to allow a space for people to introduce themselves!

⁂ If you have any questions, suggestions, or other feedback then you can feel free to let us know here!

Frankly, with Avan flitting around, he'll probably knock out a good chunk of the population with the table that Angeal is just leaving - him, plus three other men. That's probably no small number of the newcomers, at the very least.

Still, Angeal himself is amiable enough as he nods to Avan. "Angeal. And you'll have to be more specific. There's a lot to think about, huh?"
avanture_time: (So trustworthy!)

[personal profile] avanture_time 2024-10-07 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
"There certainly is!" Avan responds brightly. "Whatever strikes you as important to comment on first is fine."
firsteditionbfs: (Stay still)

Whatever strikes him as important, huh? Angeal takes a moment to ponder over that one, gaze sweeping over the hall as he takes in the various people and items which are about.

Not that it really takes too much thinking, really. But he has to at least pretend to consider the question, you know? "I suppose it would be about the food," he says at last. "Even if the locals were entirely good-hearted, they would be reluctant to give away any food that they couldn't afford to. While we're in a really bustling harvest season right now, winter hits hard right after it, and then you can't really harvest or plant much of anything. That we're being not only being given food, but that some of it is even things like meat, is proof that they're managing decently enough over here.

"Sure, there's a god around or whatever, but Charlie is giving me the impression that he's not really grown into any kind of aggressive authority as of right now, so I don't think he'd push if it wasn't something easily procured."
avanture_time: (So strong and clever!)

Avan nods along to Angeal's observations. "It's a very generous spread for such a small farming town! Especially one that so recently endured disaster." That might make for fewer mouths to feed, but surely the amount produced and harvested would also be impacted.

"I suppose that's the benefit of divine intervention!"
firsteditionbfs: (You know what? fuck it)

[personal profile] firsteditionbfs 2024-10-17 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, recently can mean a lot of things, honestly, so I wouldn't put too much stock in that just yet until the details have been nailed out." But that's just him. Angeal crosses his arms, thinking more on it all.

"And I wonder how much divine intervention really plays a part... Aren't gods supposed to have specific roles, or something like that? Then again, it's not as though I can speak on that particularly definitively or anything. Gods didn't seem to play much of a role in my homeworld."
avanture_time: (is that it's actually all accurate)

[personal profile] avanture_time 2024-10-17 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Avan brings a hand to his chin thoughtfully. "In my home, we had the God of Humans, the God of Dragons, and the God of Darklings. They each had their own domain, obviously, but those are pretty broad categories, and the legends don't imply any sort of limits on their power."

And then he breaks out in a nervous grin. "Of course, the Gods left our world long, long ago, so there's no way to verify the accuracy of those legends, and even if there was, Mr. Charlie is clearly a very different sort of god."
firsteditionbfs: (You know what? fuck it)

"That just makes the gods sound like deadbeat dads," Angeal comments wryly, before shrugging. "Well, I suppose we shouldn't complain with entire worlds made. There are worse things."

They could be asshole dads, of which Angeal knows too many of.

"I don't think Charlie got the guidebook on godhood, frankly."
avanture_time: (So trustworthy!)

[personal profile] avanture_time 2024-10-19 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Avan frowns briefly at the comparison of the Gods to deadbeat dads--it's not a characterization he agrees with, but it's also not an opinion he holds strongly enough to argue about.

"I can't imagine there's a guidebook to be had! Mortals rising to godhood couldn't possibly be a common occurrence, not by any means! Otherwise the title of 'god' would be wholly meaningless!"

"I mean, not where we are, but I think it's easier than you might think depending on things." Then again, maybe his entire thing is a little... warped, due to his time in the simulation. "Sometimes it might just be a matter of living long enough or getting lucky. Or unlucky, depending on your perspective."

Says the depressed man.

Still, he shakes his head. "Either way, I suppose all that matters to most of us is getting our basic affairs in order. Godhood is Charlie's problem. Ours is going to be a lot simpler and, in some ways, stupider."
